Chronic Pain management. Chronic Pain is pain that is continues beyond the body’s acute healing (up to 3 months) and occurs on a daily and constant basis. Chronic Pain can also occur as part of another long-term health condition such as arthritis, cancer, etc. People with Chronic Pain often develop depressive symptoms due to their ongoing pain and functional limitations. There is also a huge adjustment process for the individual and those around them. There are many reasons why someone may develop chronic pain and the proportion of people experiencing this is as high as 20% of our population. Chronic Pain can be very disabling, challenging and isolating. Talking to a Clinical Psychologist about the experience of Chronic pain can be beneficial. Additionally, there are many skills and strategies that a Clinical Psychologist can offer as part of assisting a client to more effectively manage their Chronic Pain.
